Photo Sunday: Leiden’s Hortus Botanicus

My birthday last year fell on a Saturday with some pretty decent weather, so I decided to spend the afternoon at the Hortus Botanicus (botanic garden) in Leiden. The fall colors were setting in and it was fairly quiet in the gardens, making it a good time to visit.

Next door to the Hortus, the Sterrenwacht (astronomical observatory) had its doors open in honor of reopening after major renovations. We popped in there and had a look around.

Love your photos here! The Hortus has to be one of Leiden’s best spots, don’t you agree?! Such a great place to spend a lazy afternoon, and the array of plants never ceases to amaze me! Totally keen to go and check out the Sterrenwacht now after seeing your photos… thanks! Happy to have found your blog!

Thanks for the comments! I’m glad you enjoyed the photos. Yes, the Hortus is really fun to wander around. We have museum cards, so we can get in for free. During the summer they’re open till 22:00 on Wednesdays and we popped in a couple of weeks ago. The weather was pretty crap, but it meant the garden was sooo empty. I’ve never seen so few people there. It was a nice atmosphere to enjoy it in.
